Not only does the Wallkill River provide a beautiful viewing spot of the Shawangunk Ridge, it also provides our Camp-Resort guests with the opportunity to enjoy the river! Fishing is a fan favorite at our Shawangunk campground. Our guests love bringing their fishing poles from home and seeing what they can catch in the river! This river is home to bass, trout, carp, catfish and bluegill. If you don't want to fish, you can enjoy sitting along the Wallkill River or lounge near the sand. The Wallkill River provides the perfect place for guests to take a break from other various activities and enjoy the great outdoors! 

Fun Facts About the Shawangunk Ridge

The Shawangunk Ridge, also known as the Shawangunk Mountains or The Gunks, is a continuation of the long, easternmost section of the Appalachian Mountains. Originating from the Dutch name, "Scha-wan-gunk" meaning "in the smoky air", The Gunks have a maximum elevation of 2,289 ft. at the highest point, which is the smokiest part of the ridge. Today, we get to enjoy the view of the Shawangunk Ridge while hiking, fishing, and in many other ways.
